Blankets

Our lab, Holly, loves blankets. Like a toddler, she carries her blanket around the house. She shakes it, tosses it in the air, wraps herself up in it, and occasionally chews on it. She loves to play tug of war with her blanket. If we are not in the living room (where her bed is), she will grab her blanket and follow us throwing it down to use it as a temporary bed.
I know this is going to seem silly to some of you, but Holly covets my blanket. I have a soft fleece lined blanket I cover up with at night. Somehow Holly manages to be near me each night trying to lay on the blanket as it cascades over my feet. If  I get up, she pulls it off the sofa onto the floor to snuggle into its softness. Sometimes, in an effort to get her whole body onto the blanket, all seventy pounds of her is curled into a ball on my feet.
If it is going to be an especially cold night, I take the blanket to bed. Holly attempts to sleep on me so she can feel the blanket beneath her. We battle as I push her aside...she always gets at least a piece of it.
My husband says it is just a matter of time before I give in and give Holly my blanket and he is probably right. I wonder... if I replace my blanket with a new one...will she want the new one too?
Holly...not spoiled at all:)

  2. I agree with Lynn, I thought you were writing about your hubby (since that's the conversation my hubby & I've been having). Too cute - I was expecting a "small" dog, but Holly is adorable. I think no matter what blanket you have, Holly will want it - only to be close to Mom! Thanks for sharing.

  3. They know our stuff, don't they? And like a kid, they want to have it, wear it, hold it...be a part of you! Holly is such a sweetheart. Dogs would crawl in under your skin if you'd let them!

  4. I love your funny doggie. That is hilarious. Our dog is the same way about towels. He has to rub himself on them and then drag them into his little corner of the living room where he hoards his toys.

  8. That is so cute. I can just see your dog trying to push and shove her way under your blanket.

  9. Well-written! Don't you wonder how she can enjoy the softness of the blanket under all that fur? I think she will eventually claim the blanket as her own.
